There are times when I still pine for the days of feather and quill. Not just when I get nostalgic walking past some of my competitors shop fronts who perhaps haven't moved quite as quickly with the times, but also when the wonders of technology and our dependence on it occasionally comes to a juddering halt.
The Watford office has just had one such week. If it had a plug, it seemed to go wrong. Technology definitely seemed to have it in for us this week; phone access was limited, computers were on strike, the Internet was failing and to cap it all, our main server crashed leaving us well and truly up the proverbial creek. 10 staff suddenly devoid of access to their diaries, and their vendors / landlords does not make for a happy environment and my normally polite and unflappable crew were working with gritted teeth and a sense of humour failure.
It was such a major fix required that only by Monday did we get fully up and running again. Thankfully having the second office linked meant that we could swap staff across to Bushey to pick up all the information we needed. It was far from ideal, but it could have been a whole lot worse I guess. Not that the staff seemed to be sold on that fact!
As a footnote I have to pick up on a rivals property advert from last week. There was a 'Challenge us to sell your house in 6 weeks' teaser. That same agent are currently showing on Rightmove’s independent statistics as having their properties listed on the site for an average of 39 WEEKS per property! Not to mention they also have tie in periods of 12 weeks, suggesting even they don't believe they can match the challenge.
My advice? Don't be tempted!
