One of the challenges of running any business is keeping your product fresh, interesting and up-to-date. In relation to the web this is particularly relevant as the technology moves on at such a pace. What was new and exciting 12 months ago can very easily look outdated today.
As the web is the first point of contact for your business with lots of people, the importance of creating the right impression can’t be underestimated. It’s appreciating this that has had me instructing our web designers for a number of upgrades to the Imagine site over the past few weeks. This improvements are due to go live by the time this article hits your doormats.
Our main area of weakness, I had felt, was the presentation of properties when a potential buyer or tenant made a general search. In our system this opened a separate window that lost the feel of the rest of the site and appearance-wise was lacking substantially from our usual standards.
Estate agents mostly use bespoke property software packages to manage their property data, but the format this data is in and how it appears in individual websites can vary massively from agent to agent, as many of you will be aware. The user experience is affected and this can have a serious impact on the amount of time potential buyers and tenants spend on the website. If you're selling or renting you should want your agent to have a site that retains their interest for the longest possible time as this in turn increases the odds of them registering their details and getting out viewing. The greater the number of quality potential buyers or tenants an agent has on their database, the more chance they have of selling or letting your property.

I have had the dubious pleasure of reaching the mid life age....
